Big_Sam
The problem with that mate is that I lost two friends from a crash that happened at 30mph on a country road. Speed/power limiting would not have stopped it. There is a world of difference driving a car with 3 people in it to driving on your own, it does not handle the same and thus they seem to crash more often. Pushkin
Thats a fair enough point Sam but it works for motor cycles and yes - there are still some carshes for low powered motor cycles but as I said before - I believe there was a great reduction in these when they introduced the power bands all those years ago. I'm more than happy to change my thinking on that though if there are some statsitics available on this to look over. Pushkin :o
SidneyG
Sam, you have hit the nail on the head there.Fill a car up with 5 blokes and its a totally different vehicle, my 2.7 ton landrover handles completely different with 5 in, no where near as nimble, so in a fiesta sized car it makes a massive difference. When I learned to drive I cant recall anyone warning me of this, had to find out for myself. Unfortunately some people find out the hard way. J@mes
I do not agree with speed limiting, there are occasions where exceeding the speed limit is required to remove you from a dangerous situation (for example if you move to overtake but misjudge it and the person behind you has closed the gap you were in, you are forced to carry on passing.) If you suddenly ran out of power, you will be left with nowhere to go. If the car was limited, then you would not be tempted to overtake in the first place. TC So when you finally become old enough to drive an unlimited car, you have forgotten the overtaking part of your driver training and mess it up the first time you try it on your own? :o
