Millomite
How do you go about choosing a sire to line your bitch? I have read about people spending ages picking the correct dog for your bitch and thought that given that I would like to breed from Amber, in the future; I should maybe start swotting up. By doing this I hope to pick the right dog for her when I come to breed from her. So my questions are as follows: How do you know what lines compliment the lines in your bitch? Once you have narrowed it down to a line/strain of breeding, how do you go about selecting a particular dog? This is Ambers pedigree so any help in choosing a line etc would be much appreciated. Remember there is no rush, she's only 18 months old and hasn't completed a working season yet. Not looking to breed for at least another year
gdunc
Sorry to go off on a slight tangent but Jade of Livermere must have no nuts left - he seems to appear in every cocker pedigree I look at and he's in both your and our bitch's pedigree twice
gdunc
Thought you would've had some sensible replies by now but i'll give you my 2p. Your bitch has nice lines and you'd want similar. Other dogs but from the same kennels (eg. the welsh ones) in the more immediate lineage and not be too fussed about 'doublers' further back. A dog known to you from local shoots as a top worker may be desireable if you expect to sell pups to local shooters. More serious enquiries from triallers etc. may be looking for a FTCH sire in which case you'd have to pay the rate at one of the recognised kennels. I would try the first method but then I know a good local cocker dog and I do not have the wealth of more local FTCH dogs to choose from that you may have where you live.
