mattj40
Hi, i am new to PW and to Shooting and after getting my hands on my first gun i am looking to get my teeth into some Clays. Does anyone out there have any particular favourites in the colchester/suffolk area. Any help/advice much appreciated.
Suffolk shooter
Mattj40, Have you tried Parkford on the Clacton - Colchester back road? Markio's the man to speak to on here. The Fenns at Braintree. Clacton Gun Club. The Garrison at Fingringhoe. Martin Cavie is the man to speak to on here about fixtures etc. Blackwater Clay club. Again MC is the man to speak to regarding fixtures. Speak to Robert Radcliffe of Radcliffes in Colchester about fixtures as well. I'm sure he can point you in the right direction. If you fancy a trip into Suffolk, then you hae High Lodge up the A12 at Saxmundham. Drinkstone and Badwell Ash just off the A14 at Woolpit. LAkenheath further up opposite the Main Gate to Lakenheath Airbase. Barrow Heath on the A14 near Bury St Edmunds. Thats probably enough to get you going. And ifyou fancy a nice trip out then the North Suffolk Wildfowlers have their open shoot on the 20th April (See other post in Meet Up!. All the best. MC
Matt, Welcome to the Essex Mafia, the world is your oyster in and around Colchester for sporting clays. If you have a certificate then you are welcome sunday morning at one of my local clubs at Beckingham bell PH at Tolleshunt major. If it is evenings you want then as soon as the clocks go forward the Blackwater and Colchester gun clubs start shooting on a tuesday evening at Radcliffes shooting ground on the mersea rd starts at 6PM. There is normally a shoot every saturday or sunday somewhere not too far away throughout the summer. Another local club that I shoot at is at Tiptree and they shoot about 18 sunday mornings between now and october. The Colchester Garrison shoot at Fingringhoe ranges normally every third sunday, their last one was easter sunday. They are always in the sporting gun list. Apparently the oakley wildfowlers have a clay shoot every fortnight on a saturday throughout the summer but Markio will be able to fill you in better with that one. (If he reads this anyway) PM me if you fancy coming to any and we'll arrange to meet up. Cheers Martin
Markio
Hi Matt, As everyone has said, there are loads to choose from around here and plenty of people will gladly meet up for a shoot too. Keep an eye what's going on in the meets/clay section and if there's a meet up invite yourself along, we were all new once so don't be shy. I'll be sticking to Oakley for the next few weeks but after i get paid on the 22nd next month i'll be up for a round or two of skeet at Parkford or some sporting at Braintree if you or anyone else fancies it. Welcome to PW by the way!
mattj40
Thanks Mark, Really appreciate the feedback and welcome. I am looking forward to getting out and about and trying them all out. I can sense the old bank balance is going to take a bit of a bashing with all the cartridges. I have a few months of spending though as the other half's birthday's not till may. Thanks again and see you soon. Matt
bob300w
Oakley are shooting at Tendring tomorrow, 2.00 start. Sporting layout. Head down the A120 towards Harwich, turn right at the first roundabout, (the one with the water tower), about 2 miles down the road, through Tendring, there is a derelict garage on the right, turn left there, that's it! There will be a sign on the road. Edited April 11, 2008 by bob300w
