redthunder
Alrite lads, Went out this morning for a look and to try and bag a Buck before the season ends Anyway i woke at 4.25am before my alarm went off (4.30) after 2 coffee's and 2 fags i set off about 5.15am to the farm. Its only 2 miles from my house when i arrived it was still dark . I loaded up the rifle and set off to the top part of the farm were you have a good view looking down on the fields. As it began to get light enough to see i started scanning the fields only to see nothing Then i noticed a dark shape behind one of the small trees in the hedge deviding the two fields so scoped through my rifle and there stood a deer as i looked one deer became three i was watching them about 170 yards out but they all turned out to be doe's (fallow) I watched them for 40 minutes through my scopes with my trigger finger itching to let one rip but i had to resist I heard 2 rifle shots ring out over the next farm about 6.00 am and 6.20 am Someone else must have been having some action Nevermind it was worth getting up at stuped o'clock just to see these deer feeding away. Ive taken 2 photos on my phone but the quality is quite S**te. Edited April 5, 2008 by redthunder
cubix
Well done for getting out after just two coffees and two fags. Nice shot to be had there if you could have found a suitable beast. Whereabouts in the country is it? Edited April 5, 2008 by cubix

AndyCM
Nice bit of ground you are looking over there, and as you say a nice to see some even if they were Does. Another trip out soon eh? I was out myself this morning - alarm set for 3:25am at mates house for 4:00am and then an hours drive to a new stalking patch - so we were as much about being out for a reccy as a chance of a shot. But after 10 mins in the field - still pitch black just gone 5:00am - I spot a beastie 60-80 yards in front of me in the binoculars. Could have been anything as it was so dark so I decided to stay put and wait 10-15 mins for some light to make ID possible and the chance of a shot if a buck. The deer (I am sure it was a fallow) had other ideas and slowly mooched into the wood before I could see what it was for sure - never to come back out - I decided to stay over looking this patch for 45 mins without any further activity. Then called my mate to check if he was ok for plan B to be put into operation - he was. So I stalked through the woods to his high seat - I took a bit of time getting there as I spotted 3 fallow bucks out in 1 field 300 odd yards away. Too far for me to consider a shot for very long but it was nice to see them. Decided to carry on to my mate and approach the deer from a different angle with better cover / undulating ground. They were never seen again We stalked on elsewhere - as much about walking the ground for signs / paths - and we did not see any deer - it had started drizzling a bit - but lots of signs. So our plan for next time has been tweaked a bit and we'll be back after those bucks soon. One was a real big boy Cheers AndyCM Edited April 5, 2008 by AndyCM
