Hi everybone new on here and pretty new to airgunning so bear with me. Why is it that whem people use these pcp guns do you get more .22 pellets through the use of a cannister of air than .177 , I use to know I think but got a memory like a sieve. Because at the moment it doesn't make sense that you can push more heavier pellets through than lighter ones. I use a springer by the way . Cometa 300s .22

It's all to do with what velocity a pellet needs to be fired at to achieve a given power - in this case 12 ft/lb.

Power = velocity x mass

So a .22 pellet being heavier needs to travel at around 650 ft/sec to achieve 12 ft/lb

However, a .177 pellet needs to be travelling at about 850 ft/sec to achieve 12 ft/lb which takes more air.

This is why you get more shots per charge from a .22 calibre air rifle. It is also why using different weight pellets can take your gun over the legal limit.
