Si-Bore
I am going to get my AYA barrels re-blued but they can't be put in the hot tank if they are soldered or they will seperate In that case they would have to be re-blacked which is a longer more expensive process. So before I send them off I need to know if they are soldered or braised. How can I tell without going to a gunsmith? Thanks Si
bob300w
Very unlikely that they will be brazed, in the true sense of the word, brazing puts too much heat into the metal, affecting it's grain structure, not a good thing when applied to stressed parts. They will either be silver (hard) soldered or soft soldered, look under the fore-end at the jointing of the ribs, it will either be silver coloured, in which case it is soft solder, or a light brass (like 9ct gold) colour, in which case it is hard or silver solder. If you are still not sure, pick at it with a sharply pointed object, soft solder has a high lead content, and your point will cut into it quite easily. sandy22
If they're braised they'll have gravy, onions, carrots & stuff on them. I'll get me coat..............

Don't get your coat - I'll bget mine! I have found out that brazed is the correct term. Cheers Si
