Yes Thanks Barry I enjoyed it too.

For the interested we met up for the first time and shot a stubble field Nr. my workplace.

On Friday I reccied the fields and there were plenty of Pigeons about as there was a lot of spilled grain because the fields had previously been badly laid.

Unfortunately the fields had been mucked on Saturday so I thought this, together with the banging of a local sunday morning clay club might have moved the birds off or made them a bit skittish.

We set up at about 7.15 with 20 or so shell deeks and 3 crow deeks on the dge of the pattern and barry shot a feral straight away followed by a woodie which went on the electronic flapper.

There were plenty of crows and ferals around in the morning but not so many woodies.

Barry shot a couple more ferals and crows, with is 12g demonstrating his well honed skills from the clay ground while I had great fun wasting cartridges and missing relatively easy birds.

I missed a simple opportunity to get of the mark when mounting the gun lining up and squeezing the trigger only to have the safety still on we both had a good laugh and Barry did exactly the same thing later in the day. :yp:

In the afternoon we put a couple of woodies on the rotary and this made a real difference and started pulling in the birds from all directions Barry hit a cracking 1/2 with the second shot being at least 45 yards from the hide with the bird going away at rapid rate of knots.

By this time I was starting to get my eye in and my 16 g was upping its shoot to kill ratio. Problem was I was shooting a lot from the seated position because as Barry quaintly put it "I couldnt be ***** to stand up" His more proffessional upright swing through style winning the day.

In between a couple of really heavy, blustery showers we had a really cracking day and finished with 26 woodies, 8 Ferals, 5 crows, and 2 jackdaws.

I am too embarressed to tell you how many spent cases there were between us but suffice to say most of them were 16g.

I must get a refresher booked. :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Thanks Barry a really good day.

FM.

We set up at about 7.15 Red but I have an agreement with the Landowner that I dont let off any cartridges until after 8 am as the fields are on the edge of a village. We packed up at about 5. We had numerous Fag Breaks throughout the day which as **** law dictates, always attracted 2 or three woodies to the deeks when the guns are broken and put down. As you know this is a bit like fishing, you always get a bite when you are pouring a cup of coffee :yp: :rolleyes:

Not too bad in the end we got a last minute deal of a chalet for four and 2 dogs for £140 worked out at £35 each mon-thu as the weather was a bit damp on the monday :yp: but not too bad tue-thu :lol: .

It was a camp site at Bideford bay in north devon , loads of rabbits, pigeons etc knocking about also had a leaflet from reception of a clay shooting school come through the door "you are not going shooting on holiday she said !" . North devon certainly seems to be a good place for shooting though acres and acres of countryside.

All the best ,don't forget the clays if you fancy it .

Bar :lol:
