berettaman1
Hhm,!! when shooting, Sunday last, I came across a group of 4 shooters, who, in all honesty, I had advised once before.!... The one who had made me take notice this time, was a right handed shooter who, on observing him shooting I noticed he was twisting his head across the combe of his stock as he was shooting!!!... as he came off the stand, I noticed he had allmost 1" of cast off set up for a left hander!!..." Excuse me" I said but your gun is not set up correctly, as you are twisting your head across, and down. that is not right.!!.... What? said he, am I still doing it?.... Erh yes was my reply,........ after making sure his gun was empty .. I said,... look at my right eye, close your eyes ,mount your gun and open your eyes and see where you are aiming.!!! he did so, and the rib of his gun was pointing off so far, I dont even think he would have shot my ear,!!!I pointed out he was miles off, and he said, arh yes but I have a master left eye, and pointed to his tinted shooting glasses,... which indeed had a diffusere patch on it... Yes said I, but that is not doing what you have set it up for!!I explained I too now, had a left master eye, and had tried all the things he had been advised to do with no effect other than I now dim my left eye when shooting the target, and advised him to do as I do and raise my left thumb, on the fore end when tracking the clay to shut down the picture my left eye was seeing..he began to see what I was saying was correct,!!.... now, the guy who was the top gun of their group was starting to get annoyed as he( A C class shooter) had been advising the group how to shoot?.... and been responsible for the unfortunate mate , to set up his gun, with no idea what he was talking about!!!Hhmm, I began to think I wished I had not stuck my oar in, However,, It just shows that you should not listen to people who dont have a clue what they are talking about!!!Get yourself a good coach/or mate who knows what he is talking about!!! ME
Ron, Even so called "experts" can get it wrong too. I took my Blaser to the Essex Shooting school and was given a load of wacky dimensions and told to alter the gun. I have since been told by two other coaches that I was told a load of b0llox and that my gun fit is fine. I have just recently changed my shooting style and the way I hold the gun and my shooting has improved. A lesson learnt. Get 2 or 3 opinions before doing anything drastic to your gun. Cheers mate Matt Edited April 16, 2008 by LV

berettaman1
Well yes, we all learn something new, I found out myself years ago that, when buying a new gun, I used to mount it with my eyes closed, and upon oppening my eyes I could see straight away if I was seeing too much rib/not enough rib/or if it was pointing where I was looking!!!the unfortunate shooter I was talking about had been advised?? that his adjustable combe had to be moved over as far as possible to the left??...which meant his right eye could not look straight down the rib, without him twisting his head over the combe in a vain attempt to get his right eye in alignment with the rib,!!! in fact it was then making him start trying to get his left master eye take over as by canting over his head his left eye started getting involved with his sight picture!!, at the end of the shoot as I was getting into my car, he came over and thanked me, and said it was good to have sensible advice given!!!.
