Guest cookoff013
with stock fitting there are many factors to look at, barrel length isnt one of them. length of pull is the most common thing to change, like adding a pad, or a recoil system. i used to have a long pad on my gun, it was great for these long sweeping shots, but was an **** on anything else. the old system of putting the stock to the elbow and hand to the trigger, if you can touch the trigger its ok, if you cant its too long- is a load of bulls. the relationship with the gun is with the eye, first of all, get that in the right place. not the crook of your arm. length of pull should be comfortable, without over streaching and understretching (ie cramped up.) the comb should put the eye in the right place first time. too close / low and it puts the dominant right eye off, making the left dominant ( to a right handed shooter) meaning you see nothing. too far out and the poi can be affected. best thing to do is get a gun fitted and shoot ! low flat away clays, it will show the poi as the poa. you can poi at 16 yards, and then maybe longer. after everything has been adjusted, whack in the full choke and hit the clays. humperdingle
Thanks for advice, showed gun to mate who knows a thing or two about gun fit, he reckoned gun is too short for me, find this hard to believe as I am 5'11" of average build, but i guess it would explain shooting high,he said my cheek should be further back on stock to get true point of aim, I already have the thickest supplied recoil pad on gun, will give shop a ring to see what they can do I had a similar issue with my 391 until I fitted the thickest pad and spacer - Works very well for me now
DSPUK
I have always struggled with Beretta's shooting high - I had a 390 Gold Mallard then swopped it in for 391 Field both shot high even with 65mm spacer in - I found that to my eyes it's the barrel to rib angle - I used to sit at a desk upstairs and point gun at a sign on electric pole at end of garden - looking down rib and bead on label then hold gun as steady as you can and move your head so you look down centre line of barrel - my barrels were pointing well over top of label - to solve 391 problem I used a 3mm thick piece of Poly carb the width of rib and stuck on front of rib then put bead on that and it solved problem - by this time i had bought my Winchester SX1 and that shot dead flat so 391 went -- I have now just got a 2002 391 and doing my test it looks like it's shooting just a fraction high but nothing like the 390 and 391 I had before. By shooting high I mean if I gave a 40yrd crosser 4ft lead I also had to shoot 2ft under as well - no way could I shoot them like that. -- If anyone has ever shot a Remmy 1187 then you will understand shooting clays without thinking about gun - just look at clay and gun was there everytime -- Beretta's are hard work dave
