Lone shooters

Recommended Posts

 If you suspect someone is behaving in a way with which you are not happy, ensure that the firearm is immediately unloaded, placed in their slip and kept secure with the shooter. Never become involved in a dispute, nor let you gun fall into the hands of an unauthorised person.

To what extent would you advocate a member not letting your gun (unloaded of course) falling into the hands of an unauthoried person?

We do not employ lawyers on staff and we do not take cases to court in the way you suggest

David

Looks like we have all been paying our subscriptions under false pretences. I thought the main object of BASC was to protect their members and their shooting rights in law. 120 staff and not a lawyer amongst them. I suggest they get rid of all the researchers and biologists and marketers and other useless hangers-on and employ the sort of people who really can protect us.

Thank you for wanting me to get fired Jimbo – I guess that without me promoting BASC, or developing the membership package etc members would still join and stay with BASC anyway eh?

I guess that not being able to defend shooting by independent scientific facts is a good thing in your eyes?

You want BASC to spend member’s money employing a lawyer (do you know how much they cost?) without properly assessing the real demand for a full time lawyer?

Surely it is better to keep up the political and media campaign to safeguard shooting and thus be pro-active rather than sack everyone else at BASC, employ a team of lawyers and wait for the law suits to arrive!

Oh well – I guess I should have expected it from some of you shouldn’t I – I put up a piece of info from BASC that I hoped would be of some use, and asked for feedback on that document. Several of you have done this and I very much appreciate it, thank you.

However, as per usual – some of you choose to use this thread to directly attack me and accuse me of being a ‘hanger on’ at BASC.I will take you comments mate for what they are worth but won’t be losing too much sleep!

Jimbo – if you want to start another thread having a go at BASC than I guess that is your right- but lets not hijack this thread which is dealing with a serious issue, and frankly one that could get worse.

Remember guys, you may not like me you may not like BASC – but we are on the same side!

Good shooting guys :good:

Seems to me that the man doth protest too much.

Given that virtually all of the attacks upon shooting and shooters is either by the police or by politicians, all working in the legal/legislative arena, then the idea that BASC (or any other organisation) can effectively defend us and our sport in that arena without employing specialist lawyers is arrant nonsense.

If shooters cannot get their legal advice from BASC where else should they go? There are really only two valid reasons why anyone should join BASC (or any other organisation) - 1. for the insurance and 2. for legal representation and the protection of their sport. Everything else is icing on the cake. And not much point icing the cake if the cake is stale.

What you seem to forget is that BASC sells itself (just check every advert that it has ever issued) on the basis of being some sort of "Shooters Protection Society". Seems to me there is a serious Trades Description Act issue in there somewhere - but then, without any legal expertise at your disposal, you wouldn't know that.

I'll accept your invitation to start a different thread on the topic.

Common sense will show that proactive campaigning to deter attacks is better and likely to be more effective than waiting to be attacked and then trying to defend your position.

BASC is, has and will always go for the former but will support the latter when necessary.

I for one support proactive campaigning on behalf of all shooting/country sports, however its a sad reflection of modern society that a few very vocal and focused groups and individuals can cause so much disruption in a very organised manner. Many frustrations I am sure are based on the fact that despite a large grass roots membership and political links to assist we are very weak in defending ourselves and gaining justice once a disruption has occurred. Invariably most if not all cases have never resulted in a conviction.

However you can bet your next pay cheque I or any one of us did similar but non related such as Tress pass on private land and shine lights in the faces of folk dog walking and swore at them you would doubtless be charged with a public order offence and have to serve at least half your sentence!

Its one law for Shooting sports and quite another for non and Antis and this is a major problem that needs to be addressed. You and I have a right to be protected and treated the same by the law of the land and at present its not the case,
