rape

I was out over Rape last week and had 22 woodies,

it was hard going though, had to try a few different patterns, they seemed to be just too high and too fast,

about 80% of the birds that came in headed straight for the rotor.

unfortunately this is one of only a few fields I have to choose from in the area at the moment, as there are pheasants out on the rest of the farm.

No its not...

The birds dont seem to be interested in it at the moment and I have always found that this time of year when the rape is 3 or 4 ins high they generally completely ignore it...

Put yourself in a pigeons position... You have the late stubble, autumn drillings of Wheat and Barley, maize stubble, late pea crops, beechmast, acorns and then ivy why do you want to bother with tasteless rape.

When everything else is finished and the weather gets cold the birds will start showing more interest in it and the farmers will start moving the bangers about.

If you want a good days sport get on the sprouting winter barley and wheat and put out a few crow/rook deeks. The blighters pull up the sprouting shoots this time of year and eat the split seeds.
