SE Cheshire Clay club

Morning All,

I know that the SE Ches Clay club has moved to the Alsager shoot ground on the 2nd Sunday of the month - great shoot by the way. Does anybody know if they still run the shoot near to Middlewich on the 3rd Sunday of the month or do they do anything on the 4th Sunday?

Thanks

Peely

  • 2 weeks later...

Do you mean Barthomley, John moved from the old shoot which was on the 4th Sunday to his new shoot at Flash House Farm, he has also put a shoot on the 2nd Sunday and the new company who have taken over the old shoot at Barthomley still put on a shoot on the 4th Sunday so we have in fact 2 shoots in spitting distance.

Holmes Chapel is still on the 1st & 3rd Sunday as well.

You are right about John Brookes running a new shoot at Flash House Farm on the 4th Sunday, just down the road from his old shoot at Barthomley, both just off to the west of J16 of the M6. The people who have got the shoot at Barthomley are rumoured to be considering changing to the 3rd Sunday as the 4th has too many competing fixtures (Catton Hall).

What is a bit confusing is your reference to Holmes Chapel. This was a long established registered ground less than a mile to the east of J18 of the M6. They haven't held a shoot their for a couple of years, since the last Foot & Mouth scare (but are staging a "one off" 30birder on Saturday the 21st June).

I think the shoot you are referring to is called Sproston and is a couple of hundred yards to the west of J18. Sorry but I don't know any contact details for any of the above shoots.

That part of Cheshire (J18), a few years ago used to have clay shoots around every bend, there were at least 6 in a circle of 5 mile radius. All but the one have gone unfortunately.

Hi Mr Potter, I think it would be a mistake to change the old Barthomley shoot to the 3rd Sunday as we shoot Betley then and a lot of faces from Barthomley do also, it is one of the best value shoots in our area, a 50 sporting for £8 (members) and always challenging.

Regarding the Holmes Chapel shoot, we know it as "the Holmes Chapel shoot" it is as you say off junc 18, head out on the Middlewich Rd and is the first farm on the right, about 100 yards from junc 18 roundabout, that is also dirt cheap and not a bad 75 bird shoot.

Do you have any more details for the 30 bird shoot on the 21st June, wouldnt mind popping up to that one.

Andy,

Details for the Holmes Chapel shoot are copied here from the flyer left on my windsceen at Catton Hall.

For one afternoon only..!!

On Saturday 21st June 2008

Holmes Chapel Shooting Ground

30 Bird Re-entry Sporting Shoot

Entries from 2pm onwards

Cash payout subject to entry numbers

Enquiries telephone

07815 803707 or 07841 825307

Holmes Chapel is west off J18 of M6 (A54 towards Holmes Chapel) after approx 600 yards take first turning on right, I think it's called Broad Lane. Straight on for approx. 1/2 mile and you're there.

Regards

Thanks for the reply guys. I spoke to the organiser (John? ) early last week and he told me about the shoot being on the 2nd and 4th Sundays. Have you been to the barthomly shoot since it was taken over?

On the subject on Betley, I think from this month the event has become members only.

Might give the Holmes Chapel shoot a try..

Thanks

Yes I still go to the old taken over Barthomley shoot, first month was not fantastic with some faulty traps and not a lot of folk there, the second time was much improved with a new layout we had never shot before, much better.

Betley as from yesterdays shoot is now a members only shoot with a waiting list to join.

Holmes Chapel or Sproston was made a members only shoot earler this year as the numbers were getting too big for them to cope with but seems to be allowing non members again now.
