Ferretboy111
Well guys, i got my 510 pheasant day olds last monday. Got them in a group of 204, which are americans,,,,,, another 204 of commons and another 102 of commons. So far so good, but the weekend will hit the hardest with losses. As one can see from the photos, i have set up corregated cardboard surrounds which will be keep the birds close to the light and food/water for the first 10 days or so, by then i will remove the cardboard to let them have the run of each pen. Each pen is segregated from one another, and all have an outside sectioned pen for weathering off when they get alittle older. Each Infra red- electric lamp used is a 250w bulb which is capable for 100 chicks. Not recommended as the heaters invite cannibalism more, but its all i can manage to use on the small scale shoot which is budget run. http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m317/fe...11/P6050112.jpg = This is the ring with 102 commons in, im rearing these for a friend of mine, they have access to biddie drinkers which run off a main header tank, large feed pans and i also use a normal font drinker for the first week of there lives which has a deteroxel formula in it to help the gut. Note: how the chicks are assembled, with a nice ring around the heater meaning that the heater is at the correct height, with a hot zone in the middle. http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m317/fe...11/P6050121.jpg = This is the ring with 204 birds within it, again a similar system to the previous one but on a larger scale with the use of 2 heat lamps. The size of the ring has been created to allow enough room, but still keep them close to the heat source. http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m317/fe...11/P6050122.jpg = Again this is the same sort of outfit for 204 birds, there is the odd melanistic thrown amongst them also, ill have to keep an eye on that as they are prone to getting eaten by the others. http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m317/fe...11/P6050127.jpg This above picture just shows you where the ring is situated within the larger pens which they will be housed within 7 days or so. Hardboard is used to cover the flooring of the shed, and wood shavings are used as litter. P.s, all these pens have been swept, hoovered and sprayed and scrubbed with VIRKON S disinfectant to help deter disease. Ill keep you posted on their progress, and hope they dont all die. Many thanks Alex P.s: All you Essex Mafia out there who has bought the day off me, these are going to be some of what you will be shooting.
Mungler
Alex look after them. LV is planning on missing a fair few of them on our day. If they don't make it, they won't be there for him to miss
