Scope Problem

I've been experiencing problems with my Nikko Stirling Nighteater. It has the saddle parallax adjustment on it but it simply doesn't correct the parallax properly. The scope has always worked fine in the past but I have now noticed this problem and i'm getting varied results.

The zoom is set to normally between 12-14 and on each varied shot, I focus the saddle adjustment until I have a clear image, as you would do normally. However, on a recent trip out, I focused in on a rabbit at 80 yards but when I moved around the eye piece, the cross hairs could be seen to circulate around the rabbit. I estimated the error to be about 5-6 inch's at this distance.

Question is, what can be done to resolve this. I am not aware of any damage to the scope and I know I haven't knocked it. Could this be down to the eye focus adjustment. I only mention this as on a recent trip with a friend who has the same scope, I noticed when viewing through his scope after a shot, I couldn't see a thing. The difference being that he wears glasses and I do not. Now I know my eyes have got worse over the years i've had the scope, but I would never have said by that much.

Yours truly baffled of Sussex.

I took the scope off the rifle yesterday so I could give it the once over. I then set about checking the focus etc, which to my horror, was out. It seems my eyes have deteriorated since I first set the scope up. Since the focus was always taken care of with the parallax, I had not noticed this problem.

Anyway, I settled on a fixed point about 50 yards away and tested the parallax which I knew was out. I then wound out the focus ring halfway and tested again. This had all but cured the problem. I also noted that the cross-hairs had become sharper. :good: How I had missed this before is odd. Still, set the zoom to 24 and set the focus as per instruction from the manufacturer and rechecked the parallax, spot on.

So I guess the moral of his story for me is, never get complacent and periodically check that the scope is set correctly.
