wannabefisher
Just sent my 10/22 off to SYSS to get some mods done, the main one being swapping the stock barrel for a heavy green mountain 16"er. Does anyone have any experience of this barrel? My original barrel could only manage ~5in groups at 50 yards, so I'm expecting at least a small improvement! ;-) I'm also getting a new hogue stock and a couple of other bits and pieces. Anything else people would recommend?

deershooter
Green mountain Barrels are good but I dont think you will improve on .50" at 50 yards .22 prone shooting would acheve 100x100 with groups like this Deershooter

CharlieT
If you were only getting 5" groups there was something seriously wrong somewhere. Sounds more like your trigger group needs looking at. In my view, which does not count for much, the first thing to play with is the trigger. wannabefisher
some of those standard ruger barrels can be very dodgy. A friend of mine had one which was effectively impossible to zero as it wandered so much - is now very accurate with a CF barrel. Roger from SYSS says he has seen two factory standard barrels which couldn't hold 4 inches at 25 yards as well! Regardless, I have sent the the whole action including trigger, so they can look at it all as a package.
