Snowboarding holiday dilemma....

Finland or japan?

Going mid march with 3 other mates and we can't decide on where to go. Wanting a resort none of us have ever been to before. Somewhere that offers heli lifts to remote parts and also has a fair nightlife.

Japan has some awesome snow records and mountains but the language could be a major issue...

finland also has great snow records and again, none of us speak the lingo...

Anybody on here ever been to either before?

We are all very experienced boarders too so looking for black run areas mainly.

Prefer resorts with as little drag lifts as possible too.

My preference would be Japan as the powders supposed to be awesome and the parks are empty.

I opted for Japan too. Just browsing through pictures of past years from there and they have had some scary snow records. B) :)

It will no doubt be a truly one off holiday so I really want to go to the best resort available and stuff the cost. (so to speak..)

One of the lads fancies whistler and that side of the world but has said he will go with the majority.

Looks like a trip to the holiday store tomorrow for some snow porn brochures. :P

Ive done Banff and the slopes were top notch. Id planned on Whistler and Japan this year but just had an op on a torn cartilage and its made it worse so might have to bow out of boarding this year

Ouch!

Canada and the USA don't really interest me just yet. I fancy doing resorts that people don't normally go to.

We did Slovakia last year for a week and that was okay..well, apart from being arrested in the train station by armed police for smoking and not being able to understand a word they said. My mate cracked up a cig as they were mumbling to us and checking our passports whilst writing out a fine. Because we had no idea we were actually getting done he fired another up which they saw as being defiant hence them taking us to a small office with a gun drawn and getting someone in who spoke English. They then paraded us back onto the platform and pointed out a 2" sticker about 20 foot up on a girder saying 'no smoking'.

Lesson learned, brown underpants and £10 lighter he put it out. :P

Mr Lee,

Finns speak English quite well never had a problem out there having worked in Helsinki for sometime, drink is expensive,. In Japan everything will be VERY expensive.

M.

P.s.

Suicide rate in Scandinavian countries is high especially in winter due to SAD (light deficiency syndrome).
