Hi all this is realy a post for the newbies or lads with no land to shoot on if any of the mentioned fancy a mornings pigeon shoot on monday25-8-08 i would be able to help a few lads out a rape field i shot on last year has just had the crop cut today(wheat) it is about 30/40acres and could accomodate 4 /6 shotguns with ease the only requirements are you have got insurance and can show it to me,respect the farmer and leave no litter or empty carts, all dead birds to be removed, consider local residents no shots until 8am,never shoot on this field without myself being present IE no **** takers just turning up willy nilly, have all there own gear ie decoys hides carts be able to get to burton on trent for 7.30am.and expect to shoot with a few other lads, and maybe shoot amongst the straw not yet bailed as the rain we had today (sat) might have stopped the bailing maching from bailing the straw.if as i expect this threads gets inundated with requests for newbies to have a go i will extend the offer for tues and wedsnesday on the condition that i havent got any paid work to do.replies only by pm please . paul

it should be a good day nick. nice speaking with you today,i can still hear you bloody laughing at me. i have been watching this field now since fri afternoon, when they cut and bailed the first few acres. then they cut the rest on saturday, the rain did stop them from bailing the rest of the field as i thought would be the case.on the occasions i have gone to check the field there has been plenty of woodies on it,and they must be hungry as i drove straight past them with about 10 yards between my landrover and the woodies.as i stated earlier i cocked up on the date(calender and stella contradict each other) i will try to re arange something for you newbies/ and people with no shooting land for the next cut crops after the bank hol, or if any newbie has got time between mon and thurs THIS week and fancys a shoot let me know once again sorry to all that were interested in my cocked up thread paul

and pm replied to dave.well what can i say.went shooting today with a lad i know thats interested in shooting but has not got a shottie yet (got his cert tho ) the plan was have 10 shots then swap over with the non shooter sat at the back of the hide so we get set up and wait for the action to start.within 5 mins the woodies started to come in to the patern, nothing major just nice and steady flow of birds.after moving the magnet a little bit further out to get the attention of birds that were sat in trees behind the hide.wow what a difference moving the magnet 10 yards can make birds coming in like trains any way we packed up at 1 pm with over 220 catrs being shot and about 30 odd birds accounted for we actualy picked up 26 woodies and a crow.yes not a very big return on spent carts. cant blame the newbie as i am still green and not the best shot in the world. about 7+ birds crashed through the hedge and trees into the field behind us which is a rough bit of over grown grass and brambles so we couldnt find any that had gone awol but the main thing was being able to get out take part and give someone else the encouragement to get into the sport.if it dosent pee down i am going again in the morning and davethesign and his lad might be coming along so looking forward to another dry day atb paul

  • 2 weeks later...

hi buckfast if my offers of help and advice get more people into the sport then that makes a happy chap .the world is full of selfish miserable **** that are so tight they only breath in. i would rather do someone a good turn than a bad 1. i`m the same when i shoot pigeons and rabbits and make them into burgers etc.(just purchased a £250 mincer to add to the pleasure). It gives me a nice feeling when i am giving things away that have cost nothing or next to nothing.and with the vegies i grow in my garden more get given to family, friends and neighbours than me or mrs tremor eat. last week i made 6 big beetrot cakes and i mean big each cake must of weighed 2lb each i made 1 for myself and gave the other 5 away.i know some might think urgh beetroot cake, is this bloke real but dont knock it till you try it.its as good as carrot cake. Anyway thanks for the kind words however it doesent mean that i am nice or a softie as i will not tolerate people that take the P and it looks like i have set the ball rolling as other fortunate lads are making the same gestures as i have well done to these lads atb paul

Just wanted to say a big thankyou to p-a-s, he let me join him on friday and he lived up to and beyond his generous offer. Being a newbie, it was great that he genuinly wanted to help and give advice where requested or required. I learnt quite a bit and realised how much different it is to clays, it has made me even more determined to try harder to get my own permission somewhere. The beetroot cake was delicious :yp: . I just want all newbies to accept these generous offers, they are really useful and if everyone is as helpful as paul, then we wont be newbies for long. Many thanks again paul, hopefully we get the chance to bag some more another time.

Just wanted to say a big THANKS to Paul

Only spent an hour (had to be at work) in the field, but worth every minute

Also thanks for today at Garlands, shame we couldn`t get some clays....next time eh! Its a great show for someone to give up a little of their time (and ammo) to show newcomers what its all about.

And the burgers were spot on mate, taking the cake to work tonight...so watch this space.

Good to meet Tom, next time lets try and fit a pint in eh :stupid:

Cheers fellas :hmm:

Nick
