Good God Almighty. One expects utter lunacy from PETA, but why on earth is the MOD entertaining this nonsense for so much as a second?

 

Appart from the utter farce of the proposal itself, does the MOD not have better things to do with its money, or more pressing concerns to occupy it's attention? It may have escaped their notice at the MOD, but British soldiers are engaged in bloody conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. According to many reports, they lack basic equiptment, such as boots suitable for desert use or properly armoured vehicles. It has been claimed that this lack of equiptment has led directly to otherwise avoidable deaths of British servicemen.

 

If this is true, it ought to be national scandal. The MOD has neither one second nor one penny to waste on rubbish like faux-fur hats until it is able to assure the public and our armed forces that they are provided with the best equiptment available. Our soldiers, sailors and airmen form an entirely volunteer force, one that has the most distinguished and honourable record in the modern world. For a rich nation such as ours to send them to fight without proper kit is nothing less than a disgrace.

 

When this issue is resolved, perhaps then the MOD should spare a minute to send PETA an email telling them what they can do with their suggestions for new hats.
