duckduck1
Going to be shooting rabbits up to 120 yards with my HMR what are your views on the scope my local gun shop has recommended me ( NIKON MONARCH 6.5-20X44) at £
A Sick Old Man
I would look at this http://www.totalfield.com/riflescopes/peca...iflescope_1.htm You can not beat a bit of quality glass, forget you variable scopes you really do not need it for 100yd shooting small pests. I have one of these and they are very very good, pay a bit more on your scope and you will not look back
casts_by_fly
If I were buying another HMR, that is essentially one of the two scopes that I would be putting on it. As I'm replaing the HMR with another 17, I'm either putting the 5-20 Nikon or the 6-24 elite on top. The Nikon you're talking about is a nice scope. It is good and clear. Color transmission is clean and true. It isn't quite as bright as the Bushnell, but without comparing side by side you'll not notice the difference. The Monarch is a really nice scope and I would have no problems putting it on an HMR. For comparison's sake, I had the elite 3200 5-15 on mine when I sold it. It was a great hunting scope for an HMR. For the distances you're talking about it was borderline for the amount of magnification that I liked taking head shots. It was fine for informal targets and zeroing, but to really tighten groups I'd want 20X or more. When I picked out components for my next gun (an HMR on steroids) I decided either the 5-20 nikon or the 6-24 elite would go on top. I'm still deciding between them and I can't go wrong with either. it is just whether I want the turrets that the nikon has or the upgraded glass (to my eye) of the elite. Thanks, Rick
