tomleatel
My mate has just had his first interview with the Police, and asked me a question about his cabinet. The place that has been agreed to install the cabinet, is inside a built in wardrobe in the bedroom. The walls however are poor quality. He has asked if he could fix some baton to the wall, and then fix by means of some heavy duty wood screws the cabinet to the baton!!! What you do you think? Peter De La Mare
I would say not. Got to be flat and directly against a solid brick/concrete/block wall, according to my FLO.
Masson
Well, that counts me out from ever having a cab in this house - the walls are rubbish, even the external ones. Bah.
tomleatel
I've checked tonight, and it is a big fat NO Have been advised that if the walls are rubbish, then put it in the loft. Just come back from my mates after humping it into the loft Not Happy Cabinet weighs 85kgs
Imperfection
Mine told me the cabinet has to be firmly attached to a brick wall with no gaps which could be used to lever it off.I used 14mm rawl bolts which when tightened-expand inside the hole and are nigh on impossible to remove. They dont cost much-about 70p each from builders merchants. The battons wont work because the integrity of the cabinet would rest on simple screws and raw plugs and there would be a substantial gap behind. If the walls are that bad,he might want to consider using threaded bar and this stuff.

tomleatel
Blow that. It's in the loft screwed down with coach bolts (6 Of them), and will never be moved. Only chance of it moving, is if it comes through the roof He has also been advised to put in 2 hinge bolts into a door leading from a Garage into the Utility room !! Is this normal, or just a Met Police thing? Was not something that i had to do, and i have a similar set up Edited September 19, 2008 by tomleatel
Masson
Can you not plaster a section? I rent at the moment, so it's not really practical. I'll pick the next house on how sturdy the walls all.
