Onnet7
Hey there, You've probably noticed me asking around a lot recently, as I am slowly moving towards the purchase of my first air rifle (hopefully). I have a question about the scope mounting system, however. Is it a universal fit for all air rifles, or does the scope vary in its attachment methods. For example, if I were to get the SMK XS19, for example, and then buy a telescopic scope, would there be any main specifications I should look for (in terms of the gun, or the scope itself)? I have yet to see any mention, to my knowledge anyway, of 'mounting methods' on either of the two items. Thanks for the help, Joe.

smsguitarist
Joe Most scope mounts are 1'' ring Dove tail mounts and that is what you will need for most off the shelf air rifles. Don't skip out on mounts though spend a few extra £££ and get some good solid mounts with a stopper at the back. This in my opinion is a must for spring guns. Also when buying a scope make sure its spring gun rated as some arn't and can be broken by the harsh recoil of springs. Hope this helps! smsguitarist
I used to get EMA but now i need to apply for an Adult Learning Grant but you have to be working for it which sucks because i dont have the right hours spare for a job. EMA is a great way to pay for pellets and stuff! Let us know what stuff you go for! The XS19 isn't a bad gun, my girlfriends brother has one. Personally i find i get better accuracy out of the XS20 but that'd probably me not the guns! Im not too go with spring guns!
Onnet7
I used to get EMA but now i need to apply for an Adult Learning Grant but you have to be working for it which sucks because i dont have the right hours spare for a job. EMA is a great way to pay for pellets and stuff! Heh. My EMAs getting a pain now. Apparantly something went wrong somewhere, which means I don't get it for a while yet. Still though, should be £400+ all in one go (luckily, it's backdated). As for the gun, well, when I do get it; i'll post pictures etc... up . I am just getting started at the moment, you see, so a springer is probably a wiser choice at the moment. When I'm into a club and all ready in that respect, I'll go for a gas one. As you said though, EMA should be very helpful Thanks for the help. Edited October 27, 2008 by Onnet7

Onnet7
Ok, thanks for all the help. So overall, I have to buy the scope and the mount seperate? The scopes themselves don't come with them?
amateur
Ok, thanks for all the help. So overall, I have to buy the scope and the mount seperate? The scopes themselves don't come with them? No they don't, because you may need different mounts dependent upon the gun-type to which ithe scope is fitted. You may do better, in terms of value for money and fitness for purpose, if you buy either a secondhand combo of gun, scope and mounts off this site or go to a good gun shop who can supply the three and zero it for you, may well allow you to try out different guns and will probably do a deal on the combo anyway.
