Pykie
Had our first pheasant shoot today out my grandads, a shoot that has been going for over 30 years. With a small team of 8 guns and two beaters, we had a mixed day of walked up and driven pheasants. Having shot half a dozen, we lined up as dad and a few others beat down two goyles and a patch of game crop, with me positioned at the very tip of the thick kale. No sooner had i loaded when my neighbouring Gun Mike shouted fox and i looked up to see Charlie poke his head out of the gamecrop, the dash out no more than ten yards away. My 20 bore barked once, bowling him over clean and i quickly put a second shot into him to make sure. I quickly reloaded and dragged the dead vixen to one side. Several small flushes of pheasants came over, I shot a nice high hen bird when Mike shouted again fox! I took aim at the same spot the last fox had came from and sure enough another Charlie came out full pelt to get a face full of RC20 number 6. He dropped stone dead to the one shot and a chorus and cheers errupted! I killed a second hen bird when a third fox broke the cover crop between a gap in the Guns further up and escaped. Pleased as punch, we lined up around a small copse, and as we waited, a woodcock broke out and fluttered over my friend Rob, who missed both barrels. The woodcock turned sharply and dropped to a long second shot from me. Shooting another three strong flying cockbirds, i then shot another woodcock with a quick snapshot as he came over the trees! By the end of the day, we had 47 pheasants, two foxes, a duck, two woodcock and a pigeon, breaking our record number out there. Its one day I will never forget Edited November 1, 2008 by Pykie
