Dog's stiff neck??

Just wondered if anyone had any idea what might be wrong with my springer (6 yrs old).

Normally in perfect health, was fine the day before yesterday. Got up yesterday and when he came out the pen he seemed stiff and slow moving.

I've now managed to work out it's his neck. He can't seem to lower his head enough to eat off the floor. Is it likely he's twisted / sprained / pulled something? Another possibility is that he lives with a big strong lab and when they jump up at the pen, the lab towers over him and sometimes lands back down on him. I've checked him all over and he's not bothered about me touching his neck or generally prodding around. He's not been sick at all and there's no diaooorrr..... loose ****!

Anyone had anything similiar?:good:

My Bullmastiff had a similiar thing last year.He was in a great deal of pain and ended up being on steroids for a while until the inflamation cleared up.X-rays showed he had a compressed disc in his spine and still havent a clue how it happened.Take him to a vet because often dogs are very good at hiding just how much pain they're in.The steroids mine was prescribed though did have two particular side effects-they made him pant an awful lot and other was he pee'd in house couple of times, but they pass after a week or so.

vets always the best option .... but u could try childrens ibuprofen a couple of days ... could have just pulled it a touch ...... i gave childrens ibuprofen to mine after he strained his leg jumping off a 6ft drop :welcomeani: and helped him no end. if its ok for kids its ok for animals.

Thanks for the replies guys. The vets was going to be an option in the morning after resting him but luckily he was fine soon after!

I just brought him inside and let him have a few hours near the kitchen radiator and he was fine. Must have just pulled something I reckon. Thanks for the ibuprofen tip though, didn't realise you could use it bu it does make sense.
