Pykie
Went out friday with my mate Stuart to wait for a duck or two on a piece of flooded field. Set out a few decoys and waited and saw to our frustration 5 skeins of Canadian geese fly over about 3 gun shots up before it got dark. With not a shot fired, Stuart was on the point of saying call it a day when a lone mallard zoomed in. A quick shot from my Beretta 682 Gold E dropped him dead into the water and we didnt have to wait long before three more duck circled then came lower to drop in. I shot the tail end Charlie and Stu killed the middle one with both barrels before i swung hard onto the remaining bird and dropped him dead into the field. We were pleased with four when the honk honk of geese met our ears and I loaded some number 1s as a pair of Canadian geese came over at a nice killable range, about 25 yards. I shouted for Stu to fire first as he had never shot a goose before and couldnt believed he didnt touch a feather. I fired at the back goose and killed him, landing with a hell of a splash! We shot four more duck and with them still trying to come in, quickly picked up and as i was wading out to pick up the decoys, about 50 geese landed in front of me, the nearest almost close enough to touch. I stayed perfectly still in the darkness and as i tried to wade back, they all took off with a thunderous clap of wings. It was a pleasure to get so close to them, just wish we both had been loaded and ready for them!! We gave two brace to the farmer and the photo shows the remainder. I shot 5 plus the goose and Stu got three. Cant wait to have another go at them in a fortnight! Edited November 16, 2008 by Pykie
