Hi folks.

I have had this 410 for a while now and have never really been happy with the state of the woodwork .

You know how it is the stock was full of dints and it was finished in about 3 inches of varnish and lacquer so I decided to try and tidy it up a bit.

I didn't even pass GCSE woodwork so it was a bit daunting, but I am pretty happy with the result

Lots and lots of boiled linseed oil rubbed in with the palm of the hand . Let it dry between coats . Just a very small amount each coat . Keep rubbing untill you feel the friction on the palm of your hand . After a few coats rub down with very lightly with 00 wire wool and oil again untill you get the finish you want . Good luck . Harnser .

It depends on the finish that you want. TruOil will give a glossy finish. I use CCL, which is a linsead based oil and gives a matt finish. Either way, as Harnser said, little at a time, and when you feel the grain when you run your hand over it, 00 grade wire wool, then more oil.
