daz2202
For the last 3 weekends i have been tucked in the corner shooting over a very young crop of wheat with reasonable success. Two fields over (same farm) i have been watching larger flocks hitting then straight back into the trees. have watched over the last few days planning the weekend and there has been big numbers of woodies munching away on this field so decided to give it a go. the crop looks like mini connifer trees (2-3 inches high) i havent seen the farmer to ask what it is yet. So there i am all set up and hidden away by 6.30am waiting for the light to break, at 7.25 100's of them pour out of the trees and hit the crop 200 yards away from me. cushty i think gonna have a good day today, two came over for a look at my deeks and i let them go hoping to build there confidence. over came some more and bang bang. 1 hit 1 miss. Sat there till midday never saw another bird in the field all flying over my fave spot !!!

Jim Sarakun
WE LOOK FORWARD TO THE GAS GUNS COMING OUT, AS THE BIRDS THEN GET USED TO THE BANGING AND DON'T FLY OFF SO READILY. THEY ARE COMING OUT THIS COMING WEEK, WE HAVE BEEN ASSURED. OVER THE PAST YEARS IT HAS NOT BEEN UNUSUAL TO SEE FLOCKS NOT FAR AWAY FROM THE GUNS , AND ALL THEY DO IS FLURRY UP AND MOVE FORWARD A FEW FEET WHEN THEY GO BANG. WENT OUT TODAY AND IT RAINED ALL DAY, THOUGH THERE WERE THOUSANDS OF BIRDS ABOUT SO DISPELLING THE MYTH THAT THEY DON'T COME OUT IN THE RAIN, THOUGH I'VE KNOWN FOR A LONG TIME THAT THEY DO. HAMMERING THE RAPE THEY WERE, BUT ONE BANG AND THEY GO FOR AGES. ENDED UP WITH 23, WHICH WITH THE AMOUNT FLYING ABOUT IS SHAMEFUL. NICE SITTING OUT IN THIS WEATHER THOUGH, TOASTY WARM IN ME GORTEX SUIT, TRYING TO WILL THEM TO COME IN. THEY WEREN'T PAYING MUCH ATTENTION TO MY DEEKS, DEAD BIRDS TOO. OUT AGAIN FIRST THING TOMORROW, RAINING AGAIN THOUGH A BIT MORE WIND ACCORDING TO THE FORECAST, SO IT COULD BE A BETTER DAY. TODAY IT WAS ALL OVER BY 14.30, NOT A BIRD ABOUT THOUGH IT DID START AT DAWN..07.30 ISH. TOOK ME CAMERA TODAY TO POST SOME PICS OF THE FLOCKS BUT IT WAS HOSSING DOWN SO I LEFT IT IN THE LANDY. DIGI CAM AND DON'T WANT TO MESS IT UP.
