MM
righty. if im lucky enough to be granted a FAC (fingers crossed) and they trust me, will the FEO automaticaly want to visit my shoot to clear the land? is this how it works? Will he want me to take him, or will he want to go see mr farmer? I have looked about for this info, and dont seem to be getting very far Thanks in advance
Billy.
If the land is already signed off, during (or near to) your interview he will more than likely ring the HQ and check it is. He will check you're not exceeding the calibre of the land and then it will go from there. Signed off land has already been inspected and no further visits are necessary. If it's not been signed off it can be quite a lengthy process, whereby they look at the land, the backstops and what potential risks there are. I was shooting today with Nickbeardo and his permission had/has (can remember exactly) taken ages and I think it failed because of the proximity of a road and it was clear there was no safe shot anywhere on the land for a rifle (there was a lot of land mind!) Do you know if anyone shoots rifles where you've got permission, if so, then you should be fine. You can always ring up the HQ and ask yourself. I have to every now and then to check if a new patch of land I shoot on is signed off because I have a closed ticket. Remember though - a nice little tip is that if the land is signed off for only a .22lr, it is automatically deemed suitable for a .17 HMR, because it's a smaller calibre and it seems they don't consider the muzzle energy. So you can always shoot one of those where a .22lr is acceptable (obviously you still have to make sure you take a safe shot and in your own opinion it is not dangerous) The only time the farmer is likely to get involved is when they call him before your cert is granted to check he knows you and what he thinks of you etc, just to make sure you've not forged the paperwork. Hopefully this helps

blackbird
I had two farms to shoot over when I put in for my FAC for a .17HMR .22 & .222 one farm was cleared & the other had to be inspected, On the uninspected farm my flo just had a look a cup of tea with the farmer & job done I did not have to go with him he just gave me a bell to tell me no probs land now cleared up to .223 . Just use your head if the land is flat, no backstops, its the size of a stamp, its right next to a village or has footpaths on it dont even think about asking for a land check. hope this helps & best of luck Edited December 3, 2008 by blackbird
MM
it has a main road on one side, and a little used, but public footpath on the other, with a good distance between the two. im sure it sounds like a bad one, but once you see it, it looks different.
