webber
What do you mean exactly when you say 'firearms department' are they some sort of governmental agency?? The BASC firearms department team are not a government agency. They are however acknowledged experts in their field both nationally and internationally. The BASC firearms department employs more personnel than some organisations do in their entirety. Maybe you should spend some time studying the websites of the various organisations, and deduce for yourself what the different organisations do for, and offer shooters. Several PW members have already indicated that its BASC for them. Its not because BASC is the most expensive! webber

David BASC
I am please that so many people are seeing that there is much more to BASC than just insurance. Ultimately I can tell you the chance of you ever making a claim is about 0.05% - because shooting is very safe! But most importantly you are funding our work programmes that support our core objectives: A strong and unified voice for shooting All-party backing for shooting Balanced comment in the media Continuing opportunity to go shooting High standards in shooting Almost 130,000 individual members seem to think this is worth supporting, I guess you can't argue with that? Best wishes to all David
lurcherboy
BASC All the others just offer cheap insurance, which a lot of landowners won't accept now, and little else. That's fine if you just want the minimum to shoot, a bit like getting third party only insurance when you first learn to drive, but there will be no back up or investment on your behalf regarding your shooting rights in the future. You pays your money, you takes your choice LB

POW!
Just to add to what Lurcherboy , and the majority say , As a retired Farmer and Landowner , when seeking permission almost all know BASC , and actualy rarely ask to see insurance cover , . I am not a current member of BASC , I do intend to rejoin in the New Year , Like others I have had a love hate relationship with the policies over the years , I must add that even when not a member they have given advice regards shooting for me , As they say > You pays your money >>>>>> . POW!. PS > recently a lot of farm insurance policies now are asking about who actualy uses the land for other purposes , shooting in particular , ! Once a policy states the shooters by name in some cases , the farmer does not usualy want a change , and hense is reluctant to take on others who may seek permission , A BID factor in this is the recent clauses regarding cover for corporate manslaughter [ look it up] , More legislation comes in next year too , POW! David BASC
POW makes a very important point. Most good shooting insurance policies will include a clause called 'Indemnity to Principal'. What this will do, in effect, is protect the landowner / farmer from claims made against them due to a negligent act by the shooter on his land. If I were a farmer I can assure you I would not let ANYONE on my land unless their insurance policy also protected me. Also, I would not let anyone on my land if their policy was one of those that only responds if NO OTHER liability policy is in place, otherwise I have no idea how I may be protected- be careful, at least two possibly thee of the shooting organizations have this type of policy for its members!
