JA3llis
Hello all i am in the process of getting my fac I have filled in all the forms and got two great referees so there shouldnt be a problem on that front. I have been shooting air rifles at my close friends farm for ages now. I dont have a criminal record at all. The one ploblem i am wondreing about is my age I have just turned 17 do you think this is a good reason for my fao to turn me down? I live in derbyshire and I have heard he is a top bloke. Thanks all for the help
Billy.
Congratualtions on sorting you FAC, it's truly a daunting task trying to get your land/referees etc sorted and the wait to hear the news! Here's the firearms law. However, not to burst your bubble, I believe the minimum age to buy a gun has been raised to 18, under the new offensive weapons act. (Citations welcome) Persons under the age of seventeen 7.2 Sections 22(1) and 24(1) of the 1968 Act prohibit the purchase or hire by, and the sale or letting on hire to, a person under the age of 17, of a firearm or ammunition. For the purpose of these sections, the expressions “firearm†and “ammunition†include all classes of firearms and ammunition falling within the definitions of section 57(1) of the 1968 Act, and not only those to which sections 1 and 2 apply (see Chapter 2). In particular, this means that a young person under seventeen cannot buy a low-powered air weapon and/or ammunition for it In my opinion I would say that as long as you already own a SGC and have done for a while, your FEO will see that you are a trustworthy person who can be trusted with a firearm. However to purchase a firearm on your certificate would require you to be 18 (if the law has changed from 17) and it can't be resolved by someone being over the compulsory age. So I believe he might delay your application until you turn 18. If you've not got a SGC, it might be quite a knock back. I can't think of a single person I know who had an FAC before a SGC... Bearing in mind that when I first got my SGC at 13, I wanted an FAC from then on, but I had to wait 8 years before I managed to get the land!! That's quite a wait!! I will ring m local gun shop and see if he can throw a bit of light over this. I no that the age you can buy a air rifle and ammo has gone upto 18 for som reason thanks for the help. CharlieT
I'm afraid the honourable member from Harpenden has got it wrong. You can purchase a firearm and ammo at 17 years of age. Plenty of 17 year old's in this neck of the woods have .22rf's, I would think you should have no problems if you fulfill the criteria.
