silver_fox
I am looking to buy a decent rifle for F/TR class target shooting in .308. Having narrowed my choice down to either the Sako TRG22 or the Accuracy International AW I was surfing the web and came across the DSR-1 http://www.snipersystems.co.uk/id2.html Does anyone here have any experience with this rifle? steve b
Spoke to a guy at bisley on the last club meet who had one, offered me a go but declined. To be honest he was very lucky to get one as they are not readily available. You need to bear in mind this rifle is FORTUNES. they are in use with elite mil units. The guy is exceptionally happy with his but personally I think you are better off having a custom gun built or going with tried and trusted AI or sako so you can guarantee spares availability. You will not get any more accuracy with this rifle and will pay more for it. All the best steve b Edited December 12, 2008 by steve b
MC
If it is TR you are looking at doing then there is only one. You want an RPA action and border barrel. Set that in a system gemini stock and you have the ultimate. If you go for the Quadlock action you can fit a scope to it and they do a 20MOA sloped dovetail to give enough elevation for the long range stuff. Which is something you will struggle to get on a standard rifle/scope set up. The AI is a lovely piece of kit but F class and TR really require seperate rifles. You won't need a magazine for TR and you will want a decent set of iron sights rather than a scope. Also TR is shot with issued ammunition which is normally NATO issue so you will need the rifle chambered and proofed for 7.62 x 51mm. Not just .308 WIN. silver_fox
Thanks, your reply is very interesting. I have just got into F/TR class because I saw it as a way of competing against others with similar set ups and with similar restrictions imposed on them i.e. .223 or .308, bipod only, no butt support, weight limit, etc without having to compete with the bigger wallets which the F class open seems to encourage. It's a shame that a maximum barrel length hasn't been imposed, being such a new discipline I'm sure that the rule books haven't been written in stone - yet! I started shooting F/TR with my CZ 527 Varmint in .223 and got some great results with 70grain heads at 600yds but felt a bit out gunned by the .308 boys, so I now have an open slot on my ticket for a .308. Perhaps I should get my DSC 1 and buy a light weight stalking rifle.
