  1. Check that spares are avalable for it. I think they stopped making them a while ago. I have a Euroarms Remington .44 and no chance of getting spares for that.
  2. My Remmy is great, but it's a bit like Trigger's broom. New barrel, new stock and new action. Another great choice would be a Tikka T3 Hunter.
  3. If you take your time with load developing your reloads should be a lot more accurate (and consistant) than factory loads.
  4. I reload with this Lee kit. £100.00 plus about £30 for the dies in your choice of caliber. http://www.opticswarehouse.co.uk/products.asp?cat=Lee+Reloading+Press+Kit Add on another £80.00 or so for a micrometer, powder trickler etc. An old cordless drill will come in handy for speeding up case length trimming, primer pocket reaming and case polishing. You don't really need a turret press unless you want to churn out 100 9mm rounds an hour (oh, the good old days).
  5. I was rooting around in the loft the other day and came across some of my old Colt .45 mags from my pistol shooting days. Is there a market for these and is it legal to sell them?
  6. Get a Contour HD head cam. The SD card plugs straight into your ipad and you can download your vids. Great quality. I've been using mine for over a year now on horse back and am very pleased with it.
  7. I'm certainly not an expert at reloading but 3.1 grns seems very lite. Are you using a filler on top of the charge? I'd be worried about getting a flash over on the powder if the powder levels itself over the case in front of the primer. I might be talking a load of tosh and I'm more than happy to be corrected.
  8. When I used to teach the Marines to skydive, I always told them that the only stupid question was the one they didn't ask. We've all got to start somewhere.
  9. The last few evenings mucking out the horses field (3 acres) I've been finding the plastic wadding from a .410. No one has permission to shoot on my land, so have I got poachers or are they shooting over the hedge and onto my land? I'd hate to find pellets in one of horses. Wondering how far the wadding travels from the muzzle on firing. Perhaps I'll wait out for a few nights and have a gentle word with them.
  10. I reckon the remmy 700 is one of the most accurate out of the box value for money rifles you can buy. Great action and is infinitely customisable.
  11. If you're shooting home loads then your COAL may be too long, or you're not pushing them as far back into the mag as they will go.
  12. Just fitted a Timney bench rest trigger and am very pleased with it, can't comment on any other after market triggers.
  13. Not having the funds to purchase a new action as well as a new barrel, has anyone had their factory Remmy 700 action blueprinted? If so, was it worth it? I'm target shooting out to 1100yds and am wondering if the money spent on blueprinting will increase accuracy.
  14. I would expect a 1" group at 100yds if you're shooting off a decent bipod and nill wind, for live quarry it depends on what it is. The kill zone on a rabbit is a lot smaller than on a deer.
  15. A whole rifle made out of perspex would look even cooler.
  16. Recently bought a scope on Ebay, when it arrived it had come from Optics Warehouse but quite a bit cheaper than their list price. Perhaps they sell off their old stock this way. Have also used OW for a very expensive Leupold scope and the quality, delivery and service was excellent.
  17. When your FAC is up for renewal do you need to get all your permissions signed up again by the landowners?
  18. The cheap .308 privi is atrocious in my Remmy. I've shot my .223 at 600yds at targets and with home loads it was beating most of the guys with custom 6mm and .30's. I would say that it is more than likely down to the cheap ammo.
  19. Horses can be weird animals where guns are concerned, my moderated .22lr spooks my horses more then my .17hmr or even my .223. I've spoken to other horse owning friends about this and they all say the same thing. I've shot my .223 with my horse standing right next to me and he hardly flinched, but when I shot a rabbit with a moderated .22lr he jumped out of his skin when the bullet hit the rabbit. It pays to desensitise the horses first by starting shooting a few hundred yards away and gradually getting closer. As a bonus the horse owners will thank you because it gets them used to loud bangs and eventually makes a much safer horse to ride. As for empty brass cases, it's really important you pick up all your brass; horses guts are really sensitive, they're probably the only animal that can die from indigestion!
  20. Just bought a Zippo hand warmer. Not very impressed, I'd be better off just blowing on my hands.
  21. It doesn't need to have been wet for it to corrode. Acid and moisture is created in the mod as a result of the powder igniting. When the rifle is stored with the mod on in an upright position the acid drips back onto the crown and threads and eats away at your expensive barrel as well as fusing the threads. If you do get the mod off, you will more than likely need a recrown and maybe have to shorten the barrel to cut away the corroded section. Wish all RFD's would tell their customers this.
  22. What; lies around all day and won't get up to go to work.
  23. Ditto. Save your money and buy me a pint.
  24. To be honest mate, the best scope is the one you just can't afford. You don't really need a high magnification, 3-9 is pretty good. I have a bushnell banner on my .22lr which is great value for money with bright clear optics. It helps to visit a gun shop and try before you buy, then buy cheaper on ebay. P.S Stear clear of the BSA Sweet range, they're ****, I should know, I found out the expensive way.
