Peter De La Mare
I need a pair of wellies, as I seem to get mud nearly up to my knees everywhere this days, but I can't find a pair that'll accommodate my comedy superhero sized calfs. Anyone have similar experience? My calfs measure 20", so with a pair of jeans/waterproofs on, I need 21" for them to fit.
Flashman
Well, Le Chameau go up to 50 cm (20-odd inches). They're available on special order with an estimated waiting time of 6-10 weeks and cost £275. Otherwise, try Muck boots: neoprene, strechy top half, so plenty of give. Downside, not too much ankle support. You pays your money, you takes your choice.
Peter De La Mare
Thanks Flashman 50cm is 19.5" though. And £275 is slightly beyond what I was budgeting for wellies. I'll check them out online and see who sells them near me. May have to resort to the £9.95 Decathlon specials + Stanley knife + duct tape. Gypsy isn't my style, but needs must. Peter De La Mare
Looking like Muck Boots are the only option. They say that "They form to virtually calf girth", so if their boots would fit Godzilla, they should fit me. Anyone know of a place in/near East London that stocks them? Flashman
I bought some just in Ingatestone, Essex, if you're in the area.
Peter De La Mare
45 mins from me, very happy to travel if it means I get to try some on.
Peter De La Mare
Got a pair of Muck Boots. They do the job, no ankle support at all, as you mentioned, but will serve me well for the intended purpose. jef
I'm surprised you went for the Muck Boots, I bought my old man a pair a couple of years back and he usually needs a hand to get them off. He loves them once they're on though. Jef
Peter De La Mare
It was Muck Boot, or No Boot, as all the others I tried on wouldn't extend over my calfs (calves) and I must have tried on every pair on the planet over the last couple of weeks. Have worn them for their intended purpose last weekend I can confirm that they do the job pretty well. Trudging around a muddy field for 3 hours without discomfort. Getting them on and off was very straight forward. Edited December 22, 2008 by Peter De La Mare
fenntay
try a pair of cheap full zip wellies ""toggi or garlands """" then just undo the zip to suit
Ninj
Similar situation for myself. I ended up with a pair of 'Tay' Muck Boots. Without doubt the most comfy wellies Ive tried, warm, bags of grip and plenty of ankle support. Interested to see how well they last, but thus far, very impressed.
