Roger_Rabbit Posted January 24, 2005 Report Share Posted January 24, 2005 That's quite a good turnaround considering the barrel require proof testing Rob. Rob, what are you adjusting from ?? The priority when having chokes altered is that you specify 'bore matched' to your gunsmith when requesting the new choke size. For example, if your barrels measure the normal .729 internal bore and you request half choke the constriction should measure 20 thousands of an inch. His reply was "buy a new gun, it will be cheaper" Then found a gunsmith in America that does the same thing for $30. Yep 30 Dollars. Rip off Britain springs to mind. I agree that we get ripped off .. left, right and centre .. but consider the market over here compared with the States. I could get your single barrel Remi done for 20 quid .... (Fitter at work doing a 'cash in hand') NO guarantee .. NO choke tubes .. NO proof test .. Mass manufacture is high quality nowadays .. perfection costs more My Webpage Best there is .. Roger_Rabbit Posted January 24, 2005 Report Share Posted January 24, 2005 Rob, pure assumption on my behalf .. if your gun is a Trap O/U and you alter the chokes don't forget that most Trap guns are designed to shoot high. Alteration to the chokes and you may end up with a different point of impact. Ensure the gunsmith is reputable, I have seen chokes altered with a stone and an electric drill god only knows what pattern it throu. If your gun is a S/S then it should be ok. Roger_Rabbit Posted January 24, 2005 Report Share Posted January 24, 2005 Rob, I don't think you are doing the wrong thing. 1/4 & 1/2 will fill the game bag far better than the present set up. A little surprised at your Betti having such tight chokes from new in 28" :*) Prior to having the work done .. pattern both barrels and keep the sheet(s). After the works been done .. do exactly the same and compare sheets. Don't forget to use identical cartridges for both tests, and use a tape measure for the 30 yards. Rob G Posted January 24, 2005 Report Share Posted January 24, 2005 Roger, thanks for tips i'll let you know how i get on.I brought the gun a couple of years ago it's approx 15yrs old had less than 500 cartridges through it when i brought it.Paid £75 for gun with 2 slips a cabinet and 100 cartridges.I hardly use it as it is to tightly choked for decoying(my opinion).At the moment i use a skb-bsa 500 for my rough gun.Hope to sell it and get a silver pigeon and then use the bettinsoli as my second gun Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
