TheDaveyBoy
Lucky me. I have to travel to the US quite often for work and have determined a secound hand US rifle with all the bits and bobs is considerably cheaper than in the UK despite the poor exchange rate Only issue is having to Import it correctly with all the DTI and Custom Boys can throw at me. Anyone out there ever purchased rifle abroad and brought it in correctly without the use of a courier third party ?? Typical Americans offered me a CAR15 as a 'good gun' first off .. nice.. maybe I'll take a shine to a 0.5" Barrett for rabbit by recommendation !! Lovely guys the boys in North Carolina albeit a bit simple and married to their sisters !!

Beardo
was thinking about this the other day (after chatting with LeeinVA and my uncle who lives in Oregon), according the BASC it's fairly straightforward from the states... https://www.basc.org.uk/media/transhipment_of_firearms.pdf you only need all the import export forms when importing from the EU
TheDaveyBoy
Im a 'silly' bigot: But for second hand guns there is no better place. Be assured they are equally 'rude' about the Brits and for good reasons Im sure

Sales office in North Carolina, customer in Portland Maine: Vehicle test track in Perioria Arizona .. Prefer the west coast weather, but like the lobster on the east coast .. Nice all over. . You could make a good travel destination if you sold 'shooting experiences' at gun rooms in the US and try the hand gund we can not have in the UK now Done all that, and it never gets boaring each time we do it
LeeinVA
Hello nickbeardo How are you mate?.. I was wondering? Are there any added costs if importing to the UK? I was curious?
Beardo
hey Lee, not sure - i would have thought import duty would have to be applied on any new firearm, but what if it were a 2nd hand gift? will make some phone calls tomorrow
casts_by_fly
My guns have been brought in, but I owned them before i moved over here. As such, I've had the firearms department put them directly onto my ticket when it was issued. You will not be able to do quite as easy as you think. In the US, a non immigrant alien is NOT able to purchase a firearm or ammunition and take possession of said firearm or ammunition while in the US. It is illegal for the FFL dealer to sell to you and it is illegal for a citizen to purchase the firearm for you. Both of you risk 5-10 years in federal prison for the crime. A non immigrant alien IS able to purchase a firearm for export, however the FFL dealer must obtain an export license for exporting sporting shotguns or must be registered with the department of state to export a rifle or handgun. So not only will you have to pay VAT and import duties when you declare the gun at customs, you'll have to pay for an export license at the FFL dealer. And, he'll have to ship the gun here as you'll not be able to take possession of the firearm while in the US. Doesn't look too cost effective to me unless you're talking about high dollar items. Davyboy, Also should note that you don't get to walk off the plane with the gun. Your airline will be holding it at their baggage desk just inside of baggage reclaim. Once you have all of your bags you'd go to the desk (they will have paged you over the intercom by then) and they walk both you and the gun to the customs desk for declaration and checking. Beardo
i kinda guessed it wouldn't be that simple, what with the US gov being more than a little paranoid about exports (nightvision springs to mind) and have you ever bought a DELL PC - you have to sign a waiver stating you're not a nazi/terrorist/nuclear bomb builder!!!
