Shooting Tom

Just asking if anyone thinks it is a waste of time to decoy on grass this time of year, i have not seen any pigeons on it. But there are hundreds in the woods and rape fields around the area. there is also a pigeon flying line along the side. would decoying on the glass pull pigeons from the woods and flying line.

Thanks:)

There is only one way to find out ... try it.

I have the shooting of a very large wood and its always a problem getting more that the odd shot at pigeons. But by puting a magnet next to where I am standing in the wood ( but 40 yards out in the grass field ) its pulled pigeons into the part of a wood I am shooting in.

As I have pulled pigeons over decoys ( few wanted to land , but they still gave shots ) on bare ploughed fields I do not see why it would not work on your grass field. If there is any clover in the field the pigeons will be attracted to it once the weather warms up and it starts to grow.

It is worth trying it.

If this grass field is in between a wood and a rape field and the have got a flightline going over it, it is worth shooting it because you may do better than shooting the rape.

They may not come down into the decoys but they should come within range for some good shots.

One of the farm I used to shoot was 90% grass and 10% sugar beet and I always used to get some great bags on grass, the birds were not feeding on the farm but they were flying past and came over to see the decoys, so it is worth having ago at them.
