Hunter2
Well I have some time to go shooting this weekend and the weather is not looking great Weather forecast says rain showers Is it worth pigeon decoying in the rain? Advice always welcome Regards Derek
MerseaDavid
It is always worth having ago at them, they still feed when it is raining. You will find that when you have on and off showers that the birds will wait untill it stops and then come into feed and when it starts they will go and sit in the trees. Lofted decoys and magnets help in this sort of weather. Good luck and let us know how you get on if you do go. David.
Cranfield
A lot depends on how heavy the rain is and how sheltered are the fields. They don't seem to like downpour/stair rod type rain, but will feed on reasonably sheltered fields in quite heavy showers. I was shooting today in heavy drizzle with a strong and cold SE wind and the birds were coming in nicely.
Hunter2
Thanks Guys, The field is quite open It will be the first time out with a magnet, only every decoyed three times before with just pigeon shells. first time nothing second time 5 pigeons woo woo made a good hide third time 12 pigeons and two crows, even better hide fourth time here we come They are feeding on the next field to which I cannot shoot, but they do come in with the shell decoys, after reading a little on the subject a magnet maybe enough to bring them in. Lots and lots of pidgeons fly over so here we go. I prefer rough shooting and stalking so decoying is new to me. Lets hope the rain is not too heavy.
