Baldrick
What deer species are you stalking? Are you sticking only to Tikka?
njc110381
The T3 hunter is a nice rifle, but the plastic bits let it down. If it was my choice and if I was to buy another stalking gun I'd buy a CZ. Seriously, they're good guns! They may have a for being cheap and cheerful but look at it this way - No plastic bolt shroud, trigger guard and magazine like the Tikka, much better trigger than a Remington. They may not be expensive, but with all the cost cuts the big names are taking these days CZs are getting to be a better bet every day! The CZ550 with a sporter weight barrel would be my choice
labrador
tikkas are good rifles but unfortunatly the price has risen to £900+ and if you are left handed you can now expect to pay £1000+. that used to be sako money but now a sako 85 will set you back £1400+. the european gun prices have rocketed. i think it is now time to look at other options which havent risen so much mayby consider howa, cz, ruger, remington. but if your fixed on tikka try gun trader website, there are deels to be had there. njc110381
Id have the tikka over the cz any day of the week. Tikka just plain shoot straight with no hassle as you have found out yourself. I know where you're coming from, the Tikka is a fine rifle. I used to think that CZ was a budget option too, kind of cheap and cheerful. That was when I only had a 452 rimfire. Now I've had my 527 for a bit though I'm beginning to really rate them. The Tikkas are good accurate rifles with a very good trigger, I can't disagree with you there. What bugs me is all the plastic. It's good now, doesn't rust and requires no attention to keep it looking tidy-but what about in 20 years time? Will it still be strong and looking good or will it be a brittle liability? There's a lot to be said for steel, assuming it's looked after. The CZ centrefire triggers are amazing. I'm sure there are better units out there but I'll put money on it that there aren't many at CZ prices! The set option is cracking, push the blade forward and you have a sub 1/2lb pull for fine shots. If you don't need it put the safety on and pull the trigger, it goes back to the standard 3lb or whatever you've tuned it to. As for accurate, it out shoots me. Any gun that can make a single ragged hole with three shots at 100 yards gets my vote. Both the Tikka and CZ can do it. Both shoot very well for me but I have to question the long term reliability of the Tikka? Edit.. If as fister says, you can find an old Tikka 595/695, that changes things a bit. They really were nice rifles, on par with a newer CZ imo Edited February 1, 2009 by njc110381
