MerseaDavid
It depends really because some wood will have pigeons going into them most of the day, but I tend to get into the wood for about 2pm. You want to watch the birds for a couple of days before to see where the birds are going in and then find somewhere where you have some good cover and there is an opening in the tree tops so you can shoot the birds clearly. Try not too move to much in the wood because the birds will see you and dont fire at too bigger groups or you will put the birds off. Windy days keep the bird low but they come in very fast and land quick. Not much wind will keep the birds high but in some ways are easier to shoot because they are not ginking all over the place. Hope this helps and I am sure someone else on here might have some other ideas to help you.
sirnovember
Is it true that you should never take the first bird to appear? I read in sporting shooter that it is best not to as it could be a scout. Edited February 3, 2009 by sirnovember
MerseaDavid
I must admit I have never hered that before. I always take the first bird because you never know how many you are going to get.

proTOM1
try to get your self on the edge of the wood or next to the biggest tree for a start then move in to where they want to roost later on it works well for me !

Thanks again dave! No probs. mate. Glad I could help and I hope you have a good shoot. If you can get into the wood a day or two before you shoot you can set a hide or two up where you think the birds are going to be and this will save you time on the day. But you always need to be ready to move, just incase the wind changes or something like that. Also take plenty of cartrides with you, you dont want to run out lol.
