realtreedave
most people seem to do it differently to me .i just use a highpower headtorch from sylva[nowhere near 1 million candlepower]no filters and good out to 60 yards.this seems to do the business for me
Warbiscuit
i use a xenon scope mounted torch, good to 50 meters. 1 million candlepower one is going to light up mars!! you might as well call it a night after that. get on ebay, have a look at the xenon lamping kits, get a good one for about £20-30. filter wise, give a few a try, i like red, my mates use green, depends on what works for you. you only really want to illuminate proximal targets at any one time, as opposed to the whole field. try this ebay user: outlet1956 he usually has some good night vision, from israel, but i have had stuff from him a few times before with no problem, and delivery is very reasonable. noluv6
1million candle power is not that power full unless It Is a wide lamp but they will get use to it and get lamp shy, hence needing filter's. You want a tight beam "not flood the place". I have a deben trace max 50 watt and good out to 150+ yard,it can be dimmered too. I change filter depending on if they run or not,If I use green and I see a lot of runner's I know there use to It and switch to red and vise versa. You need to search at the top and have a look as there is load's of stuff about lamping on here. If you want a cheap light weight option get a mag lite with led bulbs "xenon eat the batteries". whicle maglite's are ok for some thing's there no good for other's hence why I have gone back to the tracer. Don't get a logun lamp either as maglite's are better. Do some reading, the hunting life has a good lamping section.
fo5ter
I use a red filter on a logan lamp - the reason red filters are used is the same as why red bulbs are used on boats at night - your eyes can look at a red lit area without having to adjust (imaging turning the light on when you are in bed and being blinded for a minute or so) not so with a red bulb! also rabbits eyes glow in the dark for miles with a red bulb without startling them
bullet boy
I never use filters.
SteveT
'Lightforce' lamps mate.....Look them up, used them for years, SL140 or SL170, adjustable beam and you can get scope mounted or handheld. Also, red filter seems to work best for me. Each to their own on the lamping scene mate, So go with what you think suits, but make sure its a tight beam as you will spook everything with a wide beam. SNAKEBITE
Use as little light as possible. With an air gun you only shoot out to about 40yds free standing anyway! Red filters make the eyes stand out more. Rotate between white light and red light. In the dark things seem nearer than they are. A gun mounted lamp is the best way to go IMHO.
