soreshoulder
went out today and the birds just kept in one big flock and sometimes broke off, got 4 but struggled. Anyway what time do they start to unflock? because in the summer you get them in ones and twos
Toombsy
It won't be too long now mate. They have already started cooing at each other so they will soon be pairing up ready to mate. Give it another few weeks and those huge flocks will start to break up. It's a bloody nightmare round here - there's one flock on my permission, and that's it, but it's massive. I get a couple of shots then they vanish for a couple of hours, often longer! Roll on the Spring
cat amongst the pigeons
they do flock in summer as well, u just have to be in the right places, ie where the food source is. if you go on the actual pigeon watch website its got a calender of what pigeons will be feeding on at certain times of the year. Billy.
If they all come down in a big flock, it's advisable to shoot them when they fly away and there's a couple of late leavers, as you'll teach the pigeons not to come near a spinning magnet. Especially as they rarely split from a large flock, so you'll not see that flock anywhere near you for the rest of the day.
Toombsy
Great tip. So simple. Never thought of that. I better sit on my hands next time. Thanks mate
mikee
as the days get longer and a bit warmer the pigeons urge to pair will increase and the big flocks will start to split, this is when you will may be able to get at them a bit better, late winter decoying is really frustrating just stick with it and you will get a result sooner or later mikee
DaveK
Went out this afternoon. Yes they were flocking but no flocking where near me. Mind you I managed to get two of the little flockers. Roost shooting was a disaster as well.
