Peely
I've heard a rumour today that my local clay shooting club is going to stop running due to increased land rent cost. (SE Cheshire clay shoot at Alsager) So I'm on the look out for a new shoot... Has anybody on here heard of or been to the Mouldsworth Clay shoot near to Delamere in Cheshire? I think that it is on the first Sunday of the month. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks Peely

Mr Potter
I think you are a bit late Peely, Mouldsworth held it's last shoot on the 1st of February. I've heard one or two reasons why it closed but mainly I think because the entires were down to about 30 or 40 on a good day. The lay of the land was 1st rate for putting on good targets but unfortunately good targets were the last thing you got there, either stupidly hard or daft easy, not cheap and not always safe! I'm not sure which of the two shoots at Alsager you mean, there is one on the east side of Jnc 16 run by a smashing old chap called John Brookes (think he shoots on either the 2nd or the 4th Sunday) and one to the west of Jnc 16, Barthomley, now run by Mick Nickelson (pretty sure that is the 3rd Sunday) I hope neither of them are closing but even if it's just one thats yet more "small" shoots closed in Cheshire and we've lost more than enough as it is over the years. Peely
Thanks Mr Potter, It is the shoot run by John Brookes that is closing down (Radway). I believe that the shoot at Barthomly on the 3rd Sunday is still on. I'm a bit confused by your note - is the Mouldsworth shoot closing too?? Thanks Peely
Mr Potter
Yes, Mouldsworth is now finished. For the last couple of years there has been a clay shoot at Kermingsham? near a restaurant called the Yellow Broom (just outside Holmes Chapel). It is held on a game shoot so they only hold the clay shoot about 4 or 5 times a year. I've not seen any flyers around for it yet so it may be another Cheshire shoot gone. If I see or hear anything I'll either post on here or pm you. Mr Potter
Peely
Thanks Mr Potter, If you can find out about the Yellow Broom shoot it would be good. Thanks Peely
Mr Potter
Peely I asked about at Catton Hall yesterday and all the local shooters said it was the Barthomley (3rd Sunday) shoot that was closing. This is the one that is to the west of Jnc 16 of the M6, it was originally run by John Brookes, then Clay Targets had it for a short while and most recently Mick Nicholson has been running it for the last 5 or 6 months. The buzz is that the land owner wanted to double the rent and that was that shoot finished. John Brookes's shoot, about a mile away on the east side of the M6, is still going on the 2nd and 4th Sundays and, I'm told is very popular with well over 100 entries each time. The word on the street (or should that be the field) is that this shoot is up for sale but for no other reason than John is in his eighties!! Mouldsworth is still shut and I still haven't heard anything about the Yellow Broom. Hope this helps Mr Potter
Peely
Thankyou Mr Potter, One shoot date a month being lost is better than two shoot dates a month (if you see what I mean...). Still a shame as the Barthomly shoot was a good ground. Peely
