Staffs-Shooter
Anyone see the letter in Shooting Times re loads of pigeon in the New Forest - all eating Beech mast & Acorn. Writer reckons they are getting poisened (tannin) & dying?

Cranfield
I don't buy the Shooting Times, but I have found pigeons that have died from , what I assumed, was eating too many acorns. I think the acorns have to be "old", for them to become toxic. I didn't know that too much beechmast had the same effect.
pete evans
i have found half a dozen or so in the woods where i walk the dog. hard to say if they have been poisened by too much of one type of food but it sounds fairly plausible when you rarely see dead birds just lying about in what appears to be otherwise good condition. i prefer it when they have an adverse reaction to lead
