poorpeet
Hello, A friend asked how old my Baikal is. I haven't a clue so I was wondering if there was any way of finding out, either from the serial number or any of the stuff stamped on it? YorkshirePurdey
If you post a photo of the proof marks we should be able to tell
poorpeet
Um...? The proof marks being which ones? Can you tell I'm new to this, or do I hide it well?
YorkshirePurdey
Them things stamped into the barrels! Probably a crown, the letters BNP etc

poorpeet
Found two crossed swords. Very small but looks like the letter L on the left, C on the right and 4 underneath.
Bleeh
Try and post a picture. What proof marks are, are the marks printed on the barrels when they where ''proofed'' by a proof house (checking the barrels to make sure they are strong enough) It dosn't show the age of it's manufacture, but gives you a rought guess (saying the gun was proofed the same year it was built) but we can give it a look. As It's a Bakial, I'm guessing it's got the words ''USSR'' on it somewhere? Edited March 18, 2009 by Bleeh
poorpeet
Yes it has made in the USSR just infront of the trigger guard. Can't get a decent picture of the marks, too small, but based on the info you guys gave I did a search on the net and the letter L was the date code for 1985. That sounds about right to me.
