sean johnston
I have recently noticed my shotgun has some patchy blueing which looks quite alarming especially in natural light.I only purchased the gun in september so i rang the place i bought it from and he has been in touch with GMK and it has to be sent back probably to be re-blued.I dont know how this has happened but it certainly is not anything i have done.I have had guns for 15 years and have never had problems like this before has anyone else heard of this happening? Regards sean. :(
Cranfield
Having just bought a Beretta Silver Pigeon, I hope its a "one-off". A friend had a new Browning re-blued soon after buying it. The Gunsmith said it was because "it had stood in a warm shop too long". I don,t quite understand how that could affect the blueing, but thats what he said. sean johnston
I did a search on here under blueing and found an entry by hoppy who also said the blueing on his silver pigeon was poor. The chap from the shop i bought the gun from said the bloke who does the blueing for gmk is superb and it will be better than the factory blueing. At least it is covered by the warranty but i am still cheesed off. neil
I used mine yesterday and didnt notice anything iffy on it.The problem is i brought mine at about the same time so they may be from the same batch :what: .I'm not clambering round the loft to get it now but i will definatly look at the weekend.I'm pretty sure i would have noticed it though as i'm a very fussy gun cleaner. When you say patchy Sean wht do you mean exactly?Should i wipe them completly dry to remove the film of oil or was it pretty easy to spot
sean johnston
Neil by patchy i mean lots of specks which look like bare steel. It sounds worse than it is.I notice them more when i wipe the oil off the barrels which is what i do when i come in from shooting prior to applying new oil.I have also found they show up more when outside in natural light.Overall really the blueing/blacking does look a little thin. :( Regards sean. neil
This maybe a duff batch then, when iwanted mine my local shop didnt have a 28" multi in stock soorderd one, when it came and i went to look the shop owner said he had taken it out of the case to wipe it over and inspect it and had found a mark on the barrels which hepointed out to me.It looked like a nick perhaps caused in transit and thats what we both blamed it on.Anyway as i had been waiting for it the owner phoned GMK on the monday morning and put a bit of a rocket under them,so much so that the rep that he deals with said that he would persionaly hand pick one for me out of there stock with some nice wood ect,so hopefully i might be ok but i will definatly check it

Cranfield
I am very pleased with my Silver Pigeon. Its very well made and the finish is superb. The blueing problem that sean has, is obviously not on all the guns. I would recommend it to anyone.
