Hi. Just wondering on some tips or legal advice. What is the correct way to store a rifle? Can you just put it in the safe in one or is it best to strip it down like i do every time locking the bolt away in the other safe with magazine or if going out shooting again the next day can it be left as it is t o save some time or is this not best practice? Thanks.

If your FEO was any good this should have been covered in your interview, if it wasn`t i would love to know why not. Best practice as advised by decent FEO`s is to remove the bolt and lock it with your ammo with a bolt action rifle, For a semi auto put the rifle in one cabinet and the magazine in with your ammo in a seperate safe. If you leave your rifle fully assembled and lock it away and your FEO turns up or you are checked then you can kiss you FAC goodbye along with your weapons as common practice is to deem you not suitable to hold a rifle due to poor practices.

Where does it say that in the rules ? I know for a fact that you have to keep your ammo and rifle seperare but Ive never read its a requirement to keep the bolt and/or magazine seperate. Some of us do it for good measure (myself included) But I doubt you'd lose your guns and FAC for having the bolt/magazine in the gun :good:

Basically mate Its a good idea to keep the bolt out, much easier to see the gun is unloaded and safe. As for an actual requirement, I doubt it. Although you can ask your FEO if you like. It also doesn't say anywhere that you have to take the bolt out while the gun is in transit, but my local RFD advised me to saying the police can be funny if they stop you and the bolts in

Seems some forces might just have different opinions on it :hmm: Prob a good idea to take the bolt out though, I like to do it so I know for a fact that the gun isn't loaded and isn't going to blow someone's head off when taking it out of the cabinet :good:
