SteveT
I already have a shotgun cert, and have been shooting for many years. I would like to take up Deer stalking but cannot work out how i would go about getting an FAC granted...... The way i see it is that you can't get an FAC without already having land or be a syndicate deer stalker AND....You can't get land to shoot deer or become a member of a syndicat without having an FAC. I have a farm that i regularly shoot over with the shotgun, but the ground isn't suitable for firearms, so there is no chance of me getting an FAC granted on this land. I am fairly new to scotland, so i no longer have local shooting contacts etc. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Lloyd90
try to find some land that is suitable for shotgun and FAC mate. Or show the FEO that you have signed up for a deer syndicate for NEXT YEAR they should grant it then, although you'd probally have to nominate a mentor, a person to go out with you and supervise you with the deer caliber rifle of your choice. Probally the Deer Stalking Certificate courses would also be a good idea
SteveT
Good advice mate, perhaps joining a syndicate for next year is the way forward. I am trying to find suitable land for an FAC, but it's difficult as i'm fairly new to the area. I have plenty of experience with hunting foxes with bullet rifles, but that was back in wales.....Where all my huntng pals are! Good advice though. SteveT
Would that secure an FAC? I'm sure i wouldn't have any issues in being granted an FAC as i have held a shotgun permit for quite some time. I thought i would perhaps require a secured position on a syndicate or written permission for grounds suitable for FAC. I would certainly book some stalking and use an estate rifle in the first instance if that will give me a chance at securing my FAC. Thanks for the advice Mark
markbivvy
Would that secure an FAC? yes. I thought i would perhaps require a secured position on a syndicate or written permission for grounds suitable for FAC. not needed for them to grant an fac. but to use the rifle other than accompanied stalking you would need to meet the conditions. SteveT
Cheers Mark, I'll start looking for some local stalking oppurtunities. I have just come across a website called ayrstalk run by a guy called Chris. Perhaps this is the way to go? All i would need to do then is find a good syndicate that's reasonably local! Great advice. Thanks
markbivvy
good luck with it. there is talk about having dsc2 as a minimum before being allowed to stalk in Scotland. you might be best finding a dsc2 stalker and quickly make him a good friend.
