IMO i wouldn't use city air weapons in lincoln. Forest Lodge Guns, Wragby near market rasen (i have never been, but have been recomended many times). Toombsy
I pop into Derek Lee's every other Friday. He's got a good supply of Brownings, Berettas and Mirooks in - brand new and some hardly used. Sometimes there's the odd Kreighoff, Blazer and s/s in, with plenty of SAs too. Have bought all my shotguns from him and been really pleased with them all and the deals I've got
marky123
Hiya Guns and stuff sold me some .22 ammo cheaper than forest lodge.I wouldn't be able to get 400 6mm bullets like I could at forest lodge though.Crawfords messed a friend of mine around with a new rifle purchase recently,so I wouldn't go there soon.Does anybody know about MGR guns? hth MARK
The Burpster
My experience over the last 10 years in Lincs.... 1. ANYTHING shotgun related = Derek Lee 2. ANYTHING rifle related = Forest lodge guns 3. ANYTHING air rifle related = Guns 'n' Stuff. GNS have some firearm/shotgun stuff at pre increase prices but are not re-stocking until it gets better. DL cannot get shotguns in quick enough to sell them, mainly because he will beat any other price you can find and is a top bloke. FLG, are great if they have what you want in stock but wont go anywhere near DLs prices, and start to baulk at the mention of Dereks name. I use these for all my reloading stuff and odd and **** I cant get off here. There are other dealers in Lincs BTBH I'm not impressed by any of them. Euro guns may be good now but last time I went in they were rude to other customers. If you want a traditional English side by side, Roy Martin at Dunham on trent is your man and very good 'smith to boot. I would wait until he has been around a bit and sold most of teh stuff that was left by the muppet that set MGR up (Mr Ollivant) who was tossing out grey imports as full UK guns at UK prices. I would bet there are still plenty of them on the racks. Time will tell with this one. I fear he is too close to DL and FLG to get anything like a fair shot at it but we'll see. Ollivant only took customers away from both these other legitmate and well run businesses by hawking cheap imported stuff. jsync
Thanks for the input guys, I think I'll try Derek lee and Forest Lodge first and see how I get on. On another note a colleague has been offered £300 as a trade in on his old Mirouku at MGR and has offered it to me for the same. I haven't seen it but it sounds to be an honest enough gun and is cheap, what are trade in prices like in comparison to retail? Thanks again
luckytrigger
I wouldnt bother with Derek Lee's unless your a 'tweedy' or a clay shooter. I went in a few months after paying cash out on a s/h semi-auto and was wearing my cammo decoying clothing. i originally went in to look at purchasing a scope.. As i looked at the scopes on display i was given a look like i was dirt under his shoe and asked abruptly if i wanted any help. Maybe it was thought i was going to steal something? I wont be going again. Woodhall guns are excellent and i also reccommend Wragby guns due to there excellent stock of rimfire/rifle ammo and helpfull advice. Its unusual for someone to be greeted like that. Was it actually Derek in the shop as he does have a couple of chaps that cover the shop for him, and one of them is a bit abrasive....... (actually sometimes he's very abrasive!) DL doesnt have that much rifle stuff in stock as shotties are his main business and the abrasive one knows very little about rifles so I guess you picked a wrong day to go in. Considering the no. of guns I've bought from him are you suggesting that I'm either a tweedy (which I'm not quite sure what you mean by that but I'm certainly not a toff if thats what you're implying) which I'm not, or a clay shooter which I also have no interest in..... Its sad that you had one less than favorable experience, but it might be nice if you didnt make sweeping statements about his other customers........ vmobiler1
If I were you I`d go have a look at MGR, don`t wright them off before you`ve had a look, ask see what he has comin in or if he could get hold of what your looking for. I know someone who just bought a new gun from him (Throught GMK) cheaper than the other shops in lincolnshire, Just becouse a previous owner bought some imports doesnt mean the new guy will, But on saying that I have been told others in the area were doing the same ( I will not say who this is as it is nothing to do with me!) Also have a look at the other shops Derek Lee does not have cheap (Meaning they are all good no cheap rubish) guns they are all new or nearly new, but the price you see is the price you pay. Forest lodge I`ve heard some bad things about but thats me, my experience with them is yes they can talk for lincolnshire, but i`m not saying dont use them if your happy with the deal then thats that. At the end of the day if you don`t have a look and a chat with the shops you don`t know who will give you a good deal, have a look round before you decide mate, Hope you find what your looking for Vmobiler1
edr
If you can wait till august derek lee will be doubling his floor space, his new extension is up but not completed. His rifle/air rifle slection should be massivley improved, his view on his air rifle section is that he will only stock the quality most popular models at the moment i.e. AAS410 or a Falcon; but hopes in time his rifle/air rifle section will improve. As for MGR, i don't rate them, For Example when i visited, do you have ------- in stock? Oh sorry mate its in my front room a few miles that way! or i can't sell you that at the moment, somebody ordered it decided they didn't want it but its still on there certificate! I haven't been for a while but the young guy in there attempted to assemble a boxed beretta urika 2, which ended up with the forend dropped on the counter! The Burpster
But on saying that I have been told others in the area were doing the same ( I will not say who this is as it is nothing to do with me!) Vmobiler1 Mine wasn't a passing comment, the previous owner sold me a grey import, I would not have known unless it was imperfect and I complained. The owner was very odd about it being returned to GMK, so I contacted them direct to find out the serial # of the gun was never imported to the UK. A quick check by them found out it was a gun sold in Holland privately. As a result he 'was spoken to' by GMK and also warned about his behaviour by the Licensing Dept..... t'would be interesting to hear what you've heard and from whom, that being said I always take what others say with a pinch of salt until I can back it up..... The new chap at MGR seems pleasent and open and isn't unaware of the 'rep' of MGRs previous owner..... so I'm looking froward to how he gets on.
