f.a.c.sam
Hi guys. I have been reading through the forum extensively for the last few weeks and have picked up some great advice from other members. But here's my dilema basically i'm going to be applying for a centerfire and a shotgun in the next few weeks and i'm still unsure as what to get. I was thinking of a 223 for foxes and some longer range work (i already havea 22 rf), and then possibly a 12g over and under for pigeons and other things. My budget for both will be around £1500 maybe slightly more. So should i spend more on the rifle or the shotgun and would it be best to go new second hand? Been looking at the howa 1500 laminated but i really have no idea about shotguns. Really would appreciate any help anyone could offer. Thanks in advance
casts_by_fly
If the 1500 is got the rifle, scope, moderator, and shotgun, then it might be worth looking second hand. If that is just for the rifle and the shotgun then you can look new. I'd probably find the shotgun that fit first. It might cost a bit more for the shotgun, but gun fit is a bit more important with the shotgun. For the rifle, you'd be hard pressed to beat a CZ 527 in 223. They are common and you can find them second hand ready to go. You're not going to shoot out a 223 until you've put a couple thousand down the tube. Thanks Rick
carl hw80
it depends wot kind of person you are, do you want a gud looking shotgun? or are you wanting something purely for the job? you can pick a decent second hand nice lookin shotgun up for 700pounds. eg beretta silver pigeon or you can spend 300 pounds and pick up a baikal thatl do the job! f.a.c.sam
I think I will go for a new shotgun as I feel that will be with me for many years whereas the 223 may go quite quickly but i suppose i'll see what change i have left
f.a.c.sam
personally a nice looking gun will definately appeal even though it may do exactly the same job as a cheap one and cost twice the price Edited May 8, 2009 by f.a.c.sam
