digger
as we have had milder evenings recently and im working right outside my front door, the dog is allowed to come out and wander around with the kids.she comes to the re-call without fail and is as good as gold. where i live there are loads of kids that play out with mine and are all happy to have the hound in tow.my question is does my dog see them as pack mates or being above her ? i have no worries about her temprament (sp) just curious as she gets on well with all ages and sizes. edited to add that when i say wander around she is glued to my 4 yr olds side, not roaming the streets Edited April 14, 2005 by digger
Devilishdave
Probably find she sees her self as pack leader and is following your kid to protect her. Many dogs even see adults in this light and will follow you even if you get up to go to the kitchen to make a cup od tea. Either that or they are used to geting *** bits from the kitchen. pavman
We had a German Shepard who was very protective of my kids and Mrs, sounds like your dog is playing a similar role, i.e its my job to look after the kids, Obviously your dog is in a family environment and not just working with the gun so looks like its taken on a dual role of its own accord….. I could be talking sh*te, and have no idea how that relates to pack order, but there are some clever folk on here and no doubt we will have the correct answer soon. pavman
pigeon master
Digger, It could be your dog is socialising with persons in your family that it views as a similar rank to itself, wolf packs although very social with each other do tend to play and spend time with animals with a similar status to themselves in the pack. My two are very similar with my two children. When the dominant member of the pack calls…meaning you…your dog has no hesitation and leaves to greet you. There are lots of theories on dog behaviour, and all are very interesting. The PM
