Pigeon shooting, help needed

Recommended Posts

Offer withdrawn as, Mr. Mudpatten has very kindly pointed out that my permission is for Permit holder only – I do not have permission to invite others along.

Sorry guys.

Hi all,

Is anyone interested in helping out?

I happened to meat a really nice guy at work, it turns out that he owns three farms in Southwick [Portsmouth area], as we got along so well he offered permission to shoot on them. He also spoke to his neighbours, and they would be happy for me to shoot there too.……..

The trouble is, I have been there a few times now and have had limited to no success.

It turns out, I am rubbish!

So…..are there any experienced people, with a shotgun interested / able to come out with me, and show me how to do it properly???

Hello mate,

Hope you don`t mind me pointing this out but it might save you some trouble in the future. The Southwick Estate runs to about 10,000(?)acres.

You might well have met the owner but it`s more likely that you`ve met one of the tenant farmers who are a thoroughly decent bunch of chaps.

The Estate runs a permit system which is administered from the Estate Office situated in Southwick village itself. To obtain a permit one needs to be a member of BASC or similar, for insurance purposes. You then get the appropriate application form countersigned by your farmer which lists the farms you are permitted to shoot over. You will then be issued with a vehicle ID and a permit and your vehicle details will be logged at the Estate Office.

If you know, and have done this already, then I apologise, but I`ve known people who have had verbal permission from a farmer, but who, if stopped by the police are unable to produce the appropriate permit and the Estate admin staff knows nothing about them. Then the problems start!

I live at the northern end of Portsmouth and would be happy to help in any way I can.

Regards, Nick.

P.S. As I understand it, the permit system and the permission it grants applies only to the permit holder. You may not take out people who do not have their own permit.

Incidentally, I do have one. Look forward to showing you the ropes.
